Testimonials

On 8/31/2025 Don Johnson had this to say:
While on vacation recently in Wisconsin, I realized our 2008 Honda CR V, which is towed behind our motorhome, was not shifting properly. Not wanting to wait until we returned home, I searched the web and being impressed with their website, I phoned Al’s Transmission in Manitowoc. Initially, they couldn’t service our car until after Labor Day, but after explaining we were traveling, Craig gave us a date. Not only did they service the transmission, but they identified a noise which previously no one else could. They said by changing the fluid in the rear differential, the noise would be eliminated. And sure enough, the noise is gone. I must add our Honda has 103, 000 miles and now shifts like new. Unfortunately, Al’s shop is too far away from home, otherwise they would be servicing our other vehicles as well. Don Johnson - Illinois Testimonial written by Don Johnson on this site.

On 8/6/2025 Bill Froelich had this to say:
I brought my son's 1971 Ford F250 Camper Special to Al's to have the automatic transmission rebuilt. They did a great job. It shifts beautifully and is a great improvement for the overall stability of the truck. After the rebuild, there was a problem with the pan gasket leaking. They took it back in and replaced it with no charge. The pan gasket began to leak again and they took it back and ended up putting a helicoil in a hole where the threads were weak. Again, NO CHARGE! If you have a place that has this level of commitment to customer service and getting the repair completed correctly, keep going there. Otherwise go talk with Craig. He stands behind his work, no questions asked. Testimonial written by Bill Froelich on this site.

I won't take my vehicles to anyone else! Best automotive and transmission service in Manitowoc and the rest of NE Wisconsin, hands down! Craig always explains everything clearly, from the service to the cost. He goes above and beyond to get the best deals on the best parts, and he and his team always make sure the job's done right the first time! Excellent work and excellent customer service!

On 5/17/2025 Jason Rach had this to say:
Always top notch work done by these folks! I never get my transmission looked at or worked on at any other place. Just had my 18 silverado trans rebuilt this week, extremely fast turn around and truck drives better then it ever did when I bought it! Top notch and job well done as usual. Recommend this place to anyone needing transmission work or other work done on your vehicle!

On 2/25/2024 Roger Ploederl had this to say:
Craig is good at what he does and has helped me out more than once. He is my go to guy!

FAQ

What types of vehicles do you service?
We work on cars, trucks, and motorhomes—both domestic and foreign. Whether it’s a daily driver or a heavy-duty vehicle, we’ve got you covered.
Do you only repair transmissions?
No! While we specialize in transmissions, we also offer full-service auto repair including brakes, engine diagnostics, suspension, and more.
Do you offer free estimates?
Absolutely. We provide free, honest estimates before any work begins so you know exactly what to expect.
How often should I service my transmission and change the fluid?
Transmission service is typically recommended every 30,000 to 60,000 miles, depending on your vehicle and driving conditions. Regular transmission maintenance helps prevent slipping, overheating, and costly repairs while keeping your vehicle shifting smoothly. If you notice delayed shifting, unusual noises, or leaking fluid, it’s best to have your transmission inspected as soon as possible.
How often should I get an oil change?
Most vehicles should have an oil change every 3,000–5,000 miles depending on the type of oil and your driving habits. Regular oil changes help protect your engine and keep your vehicle running smoothly.
What are signs that my brakes need to be replaced?
Common warning signs include squeaking or grinding noises, vibrations when braking, a soft brake pedal, or your vehicle pulling to one side. If you notice any of these issues, it’s best to have your brakes inspected right away.
Why is my check engine light on?
Your check engine light can turn on for many reasons, from a loose gas cap to more serious engine issues. Our diagnostic services can quickly identify the problem so it can be fixed before it becomes a bigger repair.
How do I know if my suspension needs repair?
If your vehicle feels bouncy, pulls to one side, has uneven tire wear, or you notice clunking noises when driving over bumps, it may be time for a suspension inspection.
Do you offer a warranty on your repairs?
Yes, we stand behind our work and offer a lifetime warranty on qualifying repairs to give you peace of mind.
Can I drop my vehicle off after hours?
Yes, we offer a customer shuttle service so you can get where you need to go while your vehicle is in our shop.
